Tile Layout Ideas in Different Sizes
The tile size that you install on your walls and floors has a definite impact on the look and feel of your room’s decor. From smaller mosaic shapes to large-format planks, learn how the right tile dimensions can transform your space into something special.
1. 12” x 24” Tile Patterns
This rectangular shape comes in a variety of materials and finishes, making it a versatile choice for walls and floors. Larger tile shapes like this have fewer grout lines to maintain and can make your room look bigger, more open and less busy. Some people even use 12” x 24” tiles throughout their whole space, breaking up the look with added decorative touches like an eye-level stripe or a decorative threshold tile. 12” x 24” tiles have become even more popular than 12” x 12” tiles because of the increased ease in maintenance. Plus, they are available in a large variety of finishes and colors, satisfying decorative styles from contemporary to rustic.
2. 6” x 24” Tile Patterns
This plank shape is common in linear layout installations but is a great option for herringbone, chevron and other unique patterns that can make your tile floor more modern and interesting.
3. 6” x 36” Tile Patterns
These longer planks are suitable for linear layouts like offset, staggered and stacked as well as angled patterns like herringbone.
4. 18” x 18” Tile Patterns
Get creative with this square tile by installing it at an angle or offsetting the tile like you would with a standard brick shape.
5. 24” x 24” Tile Patterns
This large-format tile will work in patterns and layouts like any other square shape. Its bigger size provides elegance and a minimalist design to any room.
Since there’s a multitude of tile shapes and sizes, you’re able to think outside the box when shopping for your perfect fit.
