The Many Colors of Marble
Although known for its white hues, our marble color choices are just as varied as your unique style. Lighter marble floors can drastically brighten your room’s atmosphere, while the darker shades will create a sense of drama. We love the way black and white marble floor tile can create a classic vibe in your space. Marble is known for its veins, which can be soft and subtle or bold and dramatic. A white marble can have blue, grey, gold or brown veins, and delicate silver veins add movement and dimension to black marble.

Natural stone will give you a one-of-a-kind look since no two floors will ever look alike, even with the same marble installed. Marble is a popular way to add timeless beauty to any home.
-
They can be slippery, especially when wet. Installing honed marble with more of a matte finish will provide your floors with more traction as will choosing smaller tiles, which mean more grout lines.
-
Marble is a softer stone that requires a few extra steps to install and maintain. Sealer is something you definitely want to use prior to grouting. Apply the sealer once the marble has been set and cured in thinset mortar, but make sure your floor is clean first so you don’t seal in dirt. Sealer will protect the stone during the grouting process. Once your grout is cured you want to apply more sealer. Carefully follow the directions as each sealer is a bit different. We recommend a 10- to 15-year sealer so that you won’t have to complete the sealing process that often. Just because your floor is sealed doesn’t mean you don’t have to clean it (see below). The sealer only protects it from staining, so spills should be wiped up quickly because the sealer closes the stone’s pores on the surface. If soda or wine sits on the surface for too long, it can etch (take the finish off) the stone or, even worse, stain it. Make sure you use a neutral cleaner that is pH balanced to protect your sealer and clean your floors. We do offer cleaners that can help with the stains, but you will need to reseal that area. Also keep in mind that marble’s softer nature means that you shouldn’t drag heavy furniture on it. Marble might require a little more maintenance and upkeep, but nothing can replace its beauty.

The price will vary, and there are marble and granite tiles available at the same price point. Since these two stones are very different in color and style, it’s all about the look you are going for.

Sweeping your marble floors regularly will remove any dirt or debris that could scratch its surface. In addition, clean your floors monthly with a soapless cleaner that has a neutral pH. Be sure to avoid acidic cleaners that contain vinegar, ammonia or citrus elements. Grout & Tile Neutral Cleaner from Superior Adhesives & Chemicals is available at The Tile Shop. After mopping, it’s important to use a soft towel to dry the floor so moisture isn’t allowed to leech into the marble. Wipe up any spills immediately so they don’t stain the marble’s porous surface. The Tile Shop offers a poultice stain remover that can remove oil and grease stains without scrubbing.
-
Yes. We don’t recommend using bleach on any marble surface because it will etch the stone.

Marble and porcelain are very different materials. Marble is a natural stone, meaning that no two pieces will be the same. Porcelain is a manufactured material that can replicate the look but will never have the shade variation of the real thing. Porcelain is easier to maintain, but marble gives you that timeless look and feel. Choosing between porcelain and marble is all about what fits the needs of your space. The Tile Shop offers both materials in different price points that can work within any budget.
